| Summary, etc. | Im ersten Jahrzehnt des »Kalten Krieges« war die katholische Kirche in der DDR massiven religionspolitischen Anfeindungen durch das SED-Regime ausgesetzt. Die ostdeutschen Bischöfe begegneten dem systematischen »Aufbau des Sozialismus« mit dem Bemühen um kirchenpolitische Geschlossenheit sowie um Befestigung der Fundamente von Pfarrseelsorge und Caritas. Es gelang, in Erfurt eine kirchliche Hochschule als Mittelpunkt eines eigenständigen Bildungsnetzwerkes einzurichten. Die meisten katholischen Jugendlichen blieben der Jugendweihe fern. Die internen Berichte und persönlichen Briefwechsel der Bischöfe und Kirchenführer in der DDR dokumentieren vor allem den schwierigen Weg stiller Verhandlungen und Protest-Eingaben, den die katholische Diasporakirche während der frühen, von Diktaturkrise und globalem Ost-West-Konflikt bestimmten 1950er Jahren einschlug. |
