Wie sie dabei ausgerechnet in Spielen immer wieder eine operative Basis für ihr Denken und Handeln fanden, schildert dieses Buch in historischer Tiefe und medientheoretischer Aktualität. Zum Vorschein kommt eine über ein Jahrtausend währende Folge von unterschiedlichen Kriegsspielen: so das mittelalterliche Zahlenkampfspiel, barocke Ideen über Krieg und Spiel, das Kriegsspiel im 19. Jahrhundert in Preußen und die politischen Planspiele von Reichswehr und Wehrmacht. Hilgers entdeckt bekannte Figuren der Ideengeschichte, die in Kriegsspielen die Gestalt der Kriege ihrer Zeit zu entwerfen suchten: Leibniz, Heinrich von Kleist, Wittgenstein, Carl Schmitt, John von Neumann und andere. Sehr genau zeichnet er nach, wie Kriege ihr Denken und ihre Karrieren entscheidend geprägt haben, und er stellt die Frage, wie es sein konnte, dass Spiele eine Sphäre eroberten, in denen sich menschliches Handeln von seiner unberechenbarsten Seite zeigt. Um die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Schlachtfeldern und Kriegsspielen zu erfassen, geht der Autor auf die großen Umbrüche ein, die die Kulturtechniken der Zeichenanwendungen erfasst haben. Als ein Schlüssel wird der mathematische Diskurs ausgemacht, der allein auf Symbolen beruhende Zeichenapparate hervorbringt und seine Anwendung explizit als Spiel mit Zeichen zu begreifen beginnt. |
