| 520 | _aMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A is an archival, peer-reviewed, monthly publication that focuses on the latest research in all aspects of metallurgy and materials science. The journal publishes original research and reviews that: Advance the basic understanding of the relationships among structure across all length scales, physical and mechanical properties, and processing of materials, examined via theory, experiments, advanced characterization, data-driven and machine learning approaches, and validated modeling. Concern the main topics of alloy phases; transformations, transport phenomena, mechanical behavior, physical chemistry, environmental performance, welding and joining, coatings and surface treatment, solidification, and thermomechanical processing. Address all classes of metallic materials, composite materials (with a metallic matrix), powder-based alloys, intermetallic compounds, multiprincipal element alloys, nanocrystalline and amorphous materials (e.g., bulk metallic glasses), and biomaterials. Prospective authors are advised that the Aims and Scope description for the journal has been updated recently: Manuscripts dealing with materials/process sustainability are encouraged specifically. The journal will no longer consider manuscripts on bulk ceramics or on polymeric and polymer-based materials. Manuscripts with an emphasis on artificial intelligence, corrosion, magnetic properties, or wear without any connection to microstructure/metallurgy are discouraged. There are six article types in the journal: Original Research Article: The journal welcomes complete original work embodying the results of extensive field, plant, laboratory, or theoretical investigation, or new interpretations of existing problems. Materials must be considered to have significant permanent value. In addition to technical acceptability, material should be presented clearly and concisely. Of particular importance is the description of the experimental procedures involved in the experiment. It is important that critical information about experimental conditions be included so that the work can be verified by other scientists. Brief Communication: This class provides more-rapid publication of short items and theoretical or experimental work of immediate current interest. Letter to the Editor: These are short discussions of Original Research Articles and Brief Communications, which should contribute to the original article by providing confirmation or additional interpretation. They will be referred to the original authors for reply. Letters and the authors’ replies are published concurrently when possible. Review Article: These are longer articles that cover a specific area of research in great depth. These articles should provide a comprehensive and critical review of the topic and offer insight on the limitations of past works and on where the frontier research is headed. Specific cover letter requirements for uninvited Review Articles are presented in the author instructions. Authors of Review Articles are strongly encouraged to consider publishing their work Open Access after acceptance. Invited Review Article: A separate classification of review article that is by invitation only. Topical Collection Article: Articles concerned with research on the selected topic, presented in a dedicated collection. The same requirements for Original Research Articles and Review Articles apply to this article type. | ||
