520 _aWhile ceramics have traditionally been admired for their mechanical, chemical and thermal stability, their unique electrical, optical and magnetic properties have become of increasing importance in many key technologies including energy conversion and storage, communications, information storage, electronics, sensors, and automation. Electroceramics benefit greatly from their versatility in properties including: insulating to metallic and fast ionic conductivity piezo-, ferro-, and pyro-electricity electro- and nonlinear optical properties ferromagnetism dielectric properties Electroceramics can be processed in a range of forms, such as dense or porous materials, thin films, nano-wires, nano-powders, low dimensional materials, composites, and solid-state devices. When combined with thermal, mechanical, and chemical stability, these properties often render them the materials of choice. The Journal of Electroceramics is dedicated to providing a forum of discussion cutting across issues in electrical, optical, and magnetic ceramics. Driven by the need for miniaturization, enhanced functionality and reduced cost, the field of electroceramics continues to grow rapidly in many new directions. The Journal presents papers dealing with processing, characterization, structure, properties, modelling, and performance of electroceramics. The Journal encourages discussions of resultant trends concerning energy conversion and storage, information storage, multiferroics, micro and nanotechnology, sensors and actuators, microphotonics, as well as interfacial, surface, and defect engineering and modeling The Journal of Electroceramics publishes original research papers on both scientific and technical aspects of electroceramics. It also features invited articles and complete special issues on recent fast developing topics, and welcomes the submission of reviews of recent progress, and perspectives of future trends in various subfields. A new thrust for the Journal of Electroceramics is educational articles, with a new series entitled ‘Back-to-Basics’, that comprises tutorial papers on commonly used methods in the field of electroceramics that aims to lower the entrance barrier for researchers initiating measurements. Papers dealing with processing, characterization, structure, properties, modelling, and performance of electroceramics are welcome. This includes, but are not limited to the areas of: ionic and mixed conductors actuators and sensors fuel and electrolyzer cells solid state batteries memory devices boundary controlled devices wireless communications electronic packaging dielectrics multi-ferroic devices photonics magnetic recording oxide electronics superconductivity.
