Subject(s): Online resources: Summary: npj Geoinformatics advances the science and technology that transform geospatial observations into spatiotemporal intelligence. The journal publishes transdisciplinary research on geospatial data, algorithms, and systems that enhance environmental understanding and support societal decision-making. Its scope spans the full geoinformatics ecosystem, which can be viewed through a Perception-Cognition-Decision-Applications framework, from foundational positioning and sensing to intelligent services and domain applications. Core areas of interest include: Geoinformatics Perception: geospatial reference foundations; remote sensing; navigation, positioning, timing, and related communication systems; sensors and multimodal data acquisition; space-air-ground-sea observation; data fusion; high-quality data benchmarks; and social sensing. Geoinformatics Cognition: data processing; information extraction and knowledge understanding; artificial intelligence and foundation models for geospatial analysis; spatiotemporal vision and modeling; Earth simulation; and related methods that transform observations into actionable knowledge. Geoinformatics Decision and Service: spatiotemporal decision support; decision intelligence; policy and operational support; scenario analysis; risk assessment; optimization and planning; human-in-the-loop and uncertainty-aware systems; geospatial agents; and intelligent cloud-edge services. Geoinformatics Applications: urban systems; agriculture and food security; environmental monitoring and climate change; disaster risk reduction and response; and applications ranging from Earth observation and monitoring to deep-space detection and exploration. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that bridge these domains, foster methodological innovation, and demonstrate the transformative role of geoinformatics across scales and settings, from Earth observation and monitoring to urban systems, agriculture, environment, disaster resilience, digital twins, and deep-space exploration.
