Critical Care: Sepsis and Severe Infection is a high-quality, peer-reviewed, open access international journal dedicated to advancing clinical and translational research at the intersection of infection, sepsis, and acute care medicine. The journal’s mission is to improve outcomes for critically ill patients by acquiring, discussing, and disseminating cutting-edge, evidence-based knowledge that informs prevention, diagnosis, and management of sepsis and severe infections. We welcome research from all domains involved in the care of acutely ill patients, spanning the continuum from emergency departments, operating rooms, intensive care units, and internal medicine wards, to the management of immunocompromised and pandemic-affected populations. The journal also provides a unique platform for multidisciplinary teams - including infectious disease specialists and microbiologists across bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, and emerging pathogens - to share insights that enhance patient care in acute settings. Key areas of focus include: Sepsis, septic shock, and systemic inflammatory response, including evolving definitions in this dynamic field Severe infections in ICU and emergency care, integrating perspectives from infectious diseases and anesthesiology Community- and hospital-acquired infections Severe infections in burn patients Antimicrobial stewardship, resistance (AMR), and anti-infective agents Management of multidrug-resistant infections in critical care Therapeutic drug monitoring Pharmacology of anti-infective agents Infection-related complications and systemic inflammation Endemic, epidemic, and emerging severe viral infections Invasive fungal infections Severe infections in immunocompromised hosts Prophylaxis in acute care medicine Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the journal promotes research that reduces preventable deaths, improves access to essential medicines and care, strengthens emergency response, and advances treatment for communicable diseases—especially in resource-limited settings. The journal embraces Diversity and Inclusion as a core principle, supporting equitable representation, inclusive research practices, and the amplification of underrepresented voices in global health. .
