| Summary, etc. | Als Hörer schreiben wir Musikstücken oft bestimmte emotionale Qualitäten zu, nehmen tönend bewegte Formen in vielen Fällen als Ausdruck von Gefühlen wie Trauer oder Freude, Verzweiflung oder Hoffnung wahr. Dabei wissen wir genau: Ein Musikstück ist kein Lebewesen, das Gefühle hat. Und ein Werk der Instrumentalmusik bietet uns auch keine Beschreibung von Gegenständen oder Situationen, die uns zu Emotionen Anlaß geben könnten. Warum aber erfahren wir Musik dennoch als traurig oder fröhlich, als verzweifelt oder voller Hoffnung? Worauf gründet die musikalische Expressivität? Und warum lassen wir uns emotional von Musik bewegen? Das Buch läßt zunächst die traditionellen Theorien der Expressivität von Musik mit ihren Vorzügen und Schwächen Revue passieren. Anschließend unterbreitet der Autor einen eigenen Vorschlag: Wir nehmen ein Werk der Instrumentalmusik als expressive Geste einer imaginären Person wahr. Als Hörer emotionaler Musik stellen wir uns ein empfindungsfähiges Lebewesen vor, das in der Musik seine Emotionen artikuliert und reflektiert. Und so, wie wir im Alltagsleben auf den Gefühlsausdruck anderer Personen emotional reagieren, läßt auch expressive Musik ihre Hörer nicht kalt. Sie lädt sie vielmehr dazu ein, ihrerseits mit Emotionen auf ein Musikstück zu antworten. |
