| Summary, etc. | Le Nouveau Théâtre allemand d'Adrien Chrétien Friedel et Nicolas de Bonneville a été publié en douze volumes entre 1782 et 1785 et a puissamment influencé l'évolution de théâtre français dans la période pré-romantique. Mais jusqu'ici on ne connaissait guère que Bonneville, tandis que Friedel est resté un personnage obscur et négligé. Mais une importante archive inédite, provenant des papiers personnels de Friedel et conservée à la Bibliothèque Tayloriene d'Oxford, a permis de découvrir qu'en réalité le responsable de cette publication est Friedel et que Bonneville n'a joué qu'un rôle tout à fait subalterne. Ce livre établit donc par la première fois la véritable histoire d'une entreprise qui, selon Sainte-Beuve, a failli, avec d'autres ouvrages, déclencher un mouvement romantique en France avant la Révolution. |
