| Summary, etc. | Zwölf Jahre war Eugenio Pacelli Nuntius in Deutschland und anschließend zehn Jahre Kardinalstaatssekretär im Vatikan, bevor er am Vorabend des Zweiten Weltkrieges zum Papst Pius XII. gewählt wurde. Seit 2006 sind die vatikanischen Akten für die Jahre von 1917 bis 1939 für die historische Forschung freigegeben. Sie erlauben einen umfassenden Blick auf diese Zeit und neue Zugänge zur Politik und Person Pacellis. Die zentrale Überlieferung der Katholischen Kirche in der weltgeschichtlichen Umbruchsphase zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen bietet nicht nur eine neue Sicht auf Deutschland. Die neuen Archivquellen ermöglichen es auch erstmals, in einem internationalen Vergleich viele entscheidende Fragen zum Verhalten von Kirche und Kurie in dieser Zeit zu beantworten. |
