Leading figure of conservative antisemitic ideology.« – Diesen Satz liest der Besucher in ungarischer und englischer Sprache unter einem Portrait des Bischofs Ottokár in der Dauerausstellung des im April 2004 neu eröffneten Holocaust-Museums in Budapest. Prohászka war von 1905 bis 1927 Bischof von Stuhlweißenburg (Székesfehérvár) und gilt als Initiator für die Formung des Katholizismus in Ungarn seit Mitte der 1890er Jahre. Die aktuelle Forschung sieht einen engen Zusammenhang zwischen dem politischen Katholizismus Ungarns und dem Antisemitismus der Zwischenkriegszeit. So lautet die Kernfrage des Buches: Welche Rolle spielte die »Erfahrung des Krieges« im Wandlungsprozess antisemitischer und nationalistischer Denkweise bei Prohászka? Welche Wirkung hatte der Krieg auf das Denken und Handeln katholischer Würdenträger in Ungarn? Besteht ein Zusammenhang zwischen Theologie, Nationalismus und Antisemitismus? |
