Summary, etc. Journal of Mountain Science (JMS) is an international multidisciplinary journal. It is devoted to mountains and their surrounding lowlands - ecoregions of global importance, with a particular emphasis on the important highlands/ mountains in the world, such as the Tibetan Plateau, the Himalayas, the Alps, the Andes, the Rockies and many other mountain ranges of our planet. Knowledge emerging from observation, data analysis and modeling approaches spanning a range of spatial and temporal scales in mountain areas is of interest. Journal of Mountain Science pays particular attention to the interaction between earth surface change and human activities, degradation and restoration of mountain ecosystem, methods of controlling mountain hazards such as debris, landslides and soil erosion, geological engineering issues in key project construction in mountain areas, watershed management and development, culture diversity and local economic development in mountain regions. Academic papers should display universal, strategic and innovative characteristics in both theory and practice. We especially welcome papers which emphasize the application of new technologies, such as GIS and remote sensing, in mountain research and development, and the papers on new concepts and new methods deriving from disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in mountains. Examples of topics within the scope of the journal are (not exhaustive): Geo-hazards: man-made or naturally induced hazards such as landslides, debris flows, rockfalls, and mountain floods, crustal deformation; Geological disaster monitoring, forecast and early warning Key environmental issues and geological hazard risks involved in the construction of major projects such as important transportation corridors and hydropower stations in the mountainous areas Settlement construction planning in mountainous areas prone to geological disasters Changes and driving forces of vegetation, glaciers, lakes and water resources Water resources utilization and protection in large river basins Poverty alleviation measures in mountainous areas Development and protection of world heritage sites Research tools: geophysical, geochemical and geobiological observational tools, geostatistical and geospatial methods, data assimilation and modeling methods for surface process investigations, artificial intelligence-based characterization of data and processes. We especially welcome papers which emphasize the application of new technologies, such as GIS and remote sensing, in mountain research and development, and the papers on new concepts and new methods deriving from disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in mountains. .
