| Summary, etc. | Vor 100 Jahren suchten selbstbewusste Laien nach neuen Wegen, sich als Katholiken in den Streitfragen des bürgerlichen Lebens zu behaupten. Im Gepäck hatten sie unter anderem die Kulturzeitschrift »Hochland«, Schriften des Theologen Joseph Mausbach und Reden des Zentrumspolitikers Theodor Wacker. Der Autor arbeitet heraus, wie diese Emanzipationsbestrebungen unter Papst Pius X. als »praktischer Modernismus« bekämpft wurden. Ein zentrales Instrument dieses Kampfes war die Buchzensur. Welche Netzwerke von Gegnern der Laienemanzipation stießen die Zensurprozesse an und beeinflussten sie? Wie argumentierten die Gutachter der Indexkongregation? Und auf welche Weise übten sie Druck aus? Diese Fragen beantwortet der Autor anhand der römischen Archivbestände. |
