| Summary, etc. | Ce livre est le premier à traiter exclusivement de l' Esope de Marie de France qu'il approche sous un double volet esthétique et interculturel; il démontre que le renouvellement que Marie apporte au discours de la fable occidentale du Moyen Age ne peut être dissocié du contexte interculturel dans lequel elle écrivait, c'est-à -dire de l'enchevêtrement de la culture latine et arabe. En d'autres termes, l' Esope s'articule autour de deux modes fabulesques: son matériau thématique trouve sa source principale dans la fable latine (le Romulus Nilantii ) tandis que sa sémantique, sa théorie de composition et d'interprétation ainsi que, de façon plus générale, son esthétique sont fondamentalement d'origine arabe ( Kalilah wa Dimnah ). On peut dire que les fables du Romulus Nilantii , traduites dans l' Esope selon des modalités orientales, prennent un sens nouveau chez Marie parce qu'elles suivent dorénavant une théorie de lecture et d'interprétation nouvelles. Le travail que Marie accomplit dans son Esope dépasse ainsi une simple entreprise linguistique qui serait la reconstruction du genre fable, et recentre le poétique dans son rapport au politique et au culturel. Les innovations de l' Esope nous invitent à repenser la question de l'interculturalité dans la littérature française du Moyen Age. |
