| Summary, etc. | Kaum eine Erfindung hat die Welt des Wissens so revolutioniert wie der Buchdruck. Wissen aller Art – vom praktischen Alltagswissen über medizinisches und technisches Fachwissen bis hin zum Glaubenswissen – wurde durch den Buchdruck universal kommunikabel und allgemein zugänglich. Gleichzeitig rückte die Kontrolle des Wissens und seines Mediums Buch immer stärker in den Fokus des Interesses. Es kam zu einer weiteren Erfindung: Zum 'Index der verbotenen Bücher'. Dabei ist es nicht die katholische Kirche, die den 'Index' erfunden hat – die erste Liste mit verbotenen Büchern erschien 1544 in Paris. Sie versuchte aber über vier Jahrhunderte hinweg, in Inquisition und Indexkongregation den Buchmarkt zu kontrollieren. Der Erforschung dieser langen Zensurgeschichte hat sich das Münsteraner Projekt 'Römische Inquisition und Indexkongregation' angenommen. Vorliegender Band geht auf das Münsteraner Symposium vom Dezember 2005 zurück, auf dem das Forschungsteam seine Grundlagenforschung zum 19. Jahrhundert präsentierte. Nach der Dokumentation des öffentlichen Festakts folgt deren Präsentation. In einem dritten Teil finden sich die Beiträge der internationalen Zensurexperten zu Quellen und Themen der Buchzensur im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. |
