| Summary, etc. | Otto Pankok (1893–1966) ist ein von der Kunstwissenschaft wenig beachteter Künstler. Am ehesten ist er dem interessierten Kunstpublikum über seinen Holzschnitt Christus zerbricht das Gewehr (1950) und den 60teiligen Bilderzyklus Die Passion (1933–34) bekannt. Da Otto Pankok immer dem Figürlichen verhaftet blieb, wird er heute als Hauptvertreter des Expressiven Realismus gezählt. Auch seine Malweise ist einzigartig, in der er die klassische Kohlezeichnung zur großformatigen Kohlemalerei weiterentwickelte. Seine Kunstwerke können Heranwachsende in ihrer Erfahrungswelt heute immer noch ansprechen, da mit ihnen ästhetisch zeitlose Kunstwerke vorliegen, die in besonderer Weise Auskunft geben über die Geschichte Gottes mit den Menschen. Vor allem die Kohlebilder spiegeln persönliches Empfinden und christliches Weltbild in besonderer Authentizität. Sie sind aufgeladen mit zeitgeschichtlichem Erleben und dem Suchen nach einer »Wahrheit, die allen Zeiten eigen ist« (Otto Pankok, Die Richtung). Im Gesamtwerk Otto Pankoks lassen sich fünf Motivgruppen mit eindeutiger exegetischer und religionsdidaktischer Relevanz erkennen. Christliche Themen wie der wahre Mensch, Liebe, Leid, das Böse, Schuld und Sünde setzte der Künstler bildnerisch in seine unverwechselbare expressive Formensprache um. Dabei stand der Mensch immer im Mittelpunkt seines Schaffens. |
