| Summary, etc. | Die vorliegende Edition des italienischsprachigen Briefwechsels zwischen dem päpstlichen Staatssekretariat in Rom und dem Nuntius in Köln umfasst die mittleren Jahre der diplomatischen Mission des Bologneser Prälaten Antonio Albergati – eines Verwandten des späteren Papstes Gregor XVI. Ludovisi. Im Sommer 1614 erreichte der Erbfolgestreit um das niederrheinische Herzogtum Jülich-Kleve nach der Konversion des Pfalzgrafen Wolfgang Wilhelm von Pfalz-Neuburg zum Katholizismus und der Besetzung der Festung Jülich durch die Niederländer ein kritisches Stadium, das nach dem blitzartigen Feldzug des Marchese Spinola und dem Xantener Vertrag vom November 1614 vorläufig beruhigt werden konnte. Albergati berichtet hier aus nächster Nähe über Zusammenhänge und internationale Verflechtungen, die wegen der strategischen Bedeutung der Territorien als exemplarisches Vorspiel zum Dreißigjährigen Krieg gelten. Die Korrespondenz ist wie die bisherigen Bände der Editionsreihe durch eine ausführliche Einleitung, deutschsprachige Regesten und ein Register erschlossen. |
