Annals of General Psychiatry publishes open access research across the full breadth of psychiatry and mental health, including psychological medicine and translational neuroscience. The journal welcomes work that advances the understanding, prevention, assessment, and treatment of mental disorders and mental wellbeing across the lifespan and in diverse populations and care settings. The journal emphasises a biopsychosocial and evidence-based approach to illness and health, and supports rigorous methods and transparent reporting. We consider basic, translational, clinical, and population-level research, including clinical trials, observational and real-world evidence, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, psychometrics/measurement studies, and methodological and computational approaches. Topics include, but are not limited to: Clinical psychiatry across the lifespan (child/adolescent, perinatal, adult, geriatric/neurocognitive) Severe mental illness and complex comorbidity (including dual diagnosis) Suicide, self-harm, and acute/crisis presentations Psychopharmacology, medication safety, and real-world effectiveness Psychotherapies and psychosocial interventions Neuromodulation and technology-enabled interventions and care (digital/VR, AI-supported approaches) Translational and precision psychiatry (biomarkers, genetics/epigenetics, neuroimmunology, microbiome, imaging) Public/global mental health, services research, implementation science, policy, and health economics Ethics, law, and societal implications of psychiatric care.
